MX860 setup with Mac OS Snow Leopard
By FitSeniorGal (Arizona, USA)  |  March 19, 2010  | 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The CD that comes with this printer does not include the most up-to-date printer drivers and software for the Macintosh Snow Leopard operating system. I located some helpful hints in MX860 reviews by others on Amazon.com but still couldn't connect to my wireless network. I phoned Canon Support (1-800-828-4040) and received excellent help from someone located in Maryland. After she led me through the steps necessary to connect to my wireless network, she gave me a website URL that contains this valuable setup information. See: [...]

It is necessary to download five files to setup this printer - rather than using the files that are on the CD. The following Canon website asks you to identify your printer. On the download page, be sure to identify your operating system as Mac OS X.

Download the following drivers:
icaosx130m.dmg
mx860sosxcp102620ea8-2.dmg
mx860sosxsd14111ea8-2.dmg
Also download the following software items:
mx860sosxsd14111ea8-2.dmg
mx860sosmosx130us.dmg
Then download the "MX860 series On-screen Manual (Mac OS X 10.3/10.4/10.5/10.6)"

You need to setup your printer for LAN/wireless while it is connected to your Mac by USB cable. After the setup has been completed (including the entry of your wireless password, if you have one), you then disconnect the USB cable and continue with the setup.

I found the manual very helpful in describing how to use all printer features. The printer is quite fast and makes beautiful copies (printed, scanned, and copied). I haven't tried the duplex feature yet but the Canon MX860 website has some useful tutorials, including short videos, that illustrate the procedure. This is a very versatile printer and, although I've only had it for a few days, I would definitely recommend it.

Drinks Ink like there's no tomorrow.

Nice printer with good quality output - BUT - ink consumption is outrageous. You're locked into Canon refils due to the chip in each cartridge.

It's Good Buy for the Money!
By Amelia Castro (New Jersey)  |  March 15, 2010
I was really excited about finding this for such a low price on Amazon. However, when I finally got it - wireless setup was a nightmare!!! Complete Nightmare! HOWEVER< once I got everything running properly - it was ok.

Deal of the day for me!
By Donna Winnie (Green Cove Springs Florida)  |  March 13, 2010
In looking around for printers, I had it narrowed down between this one and an Epson. I currently was replacing an Epson, so I was eager to try another brand. This was the deal of the day @ $102.99 and I couldn't pass it up. It has some great features such as auto paper feed, on screen card reader(s), and bottom load paper tray. I know it does a lot more than I am asking it to as I haven't tried printing pictures, etc. I do think that someone who has a small office setting would benefit from this printer. It is a bit larger than my other printer, but the "footprint" really doesn't take up that much more space. It is just taller than some other printers, but probably not taller than others with the same capabilities. Canon seems to be creeping forward again in technology with their electronics and I for one am happy to see a company with their history get back in the race. I recommend this all in one printer in this price range.

I'm in love!
By Lauren C. Ingro (new york)  |  March 12, 2010
Honestly I have never had a printer do so much for such a good price. One of the many things I love is the duplex printing without having to manually turn over the paper. I am saving a ton of paper! I love every feature and use them all.
