It's an extra

I bought this not as a replacement, but as an extra. The original still works fine. Now I have one upstairs in the nightstand. When I'm so absorbed in my book that I run out the battery instead of falling asleep, I can just plug it in and keep reading.

The cord is great. If you are more careful than I was, you won't have to buy a replacement though, since Kindle comes with the cord :-O

I had traveled from our home in New York to our second home in Arizona with my Kindle in hand --- but not my power adapter!!! Needless to say, I forgot to pack my power adapter and the Kindle needed to be recharged.
We looked at several stores - Radio Shack, Staples, Walmart, with no success. Then we decided to try Amazon.com and it was delivered promptly to our Arizona address. What a relief it was for both my husband and I to read the books we had downloaded on the Kindle. Now we have an adapter in both places, and won't have to worry about this issue in the future.
