More power
I have a 2007 Road Glide. I have Vance & Hines two into one exhaust system with a K&N air filter and a Power Commander III. Runs great, but I would like more power. Could you offer a few other things I might do for more power. Could you be very specific such as things such as if I should change cams what would be your suggestion for lift and duration.
I am not sure what would be the next logical steps. Thanks!!!

Re: More power
i cannot give you specifics but the next logical step would be to make the motor strong enough to run more power.
As i understand you would need Roller rockers adjustable pushrods and outers Clutch upgrade possibly oil pump then you could go Cams porting and polishing on the heads HC pistons big bore Stroked motor i'm sure soembody more knowledgable on building these motors will chime in. i would try and do as much as possible in one go like cams/rods/heads/rockers and save the big bore for if that alone was not enough |

Re: More power
Without sacrificing reliability, I would just go with the big bore and some cams. You don't need a lot of cam to wake it up a bit.
Suggestions from person to person will change like oil topics .

TC96s biggest problem with making more HP is it's Heads. With stock heads and the other parts you have on your bike Cams are the next logical step the Andrews 26H cam part # 216326, .490 lift - Intake duration 262 Exhaust duration 266, Will boost Torque in the 1800 - 5200 rpm range and make the most of your stock heads and compression ratio. Go with the Harley SE adj. quick install push-rod kit and you can change cams without even pulling the gas tank off, Andrews sells a similar kit but it'll run you about $50 more and it's no better than the SE kit. Cams more aggressive then this will hurt you more then help you, with the other parts you have your looking at "about" 85hp and 105tq with this combo properly tuned. 40+mpg on the highway and no down shift passing! If you want to go wilder just say the word ![]()

Re: More power
PC, again thanks, you answer questions with great information.
You said the biggest problem with the 96 engine is it's head. Could the head be ported and polished or are their better heads available and which ones would you recommend. I will be doing the work myself (I have been building racing motors for sports cars for over 30 years). As far as a budget is concerned, I would like to stay under say 3000. I ride about 15000 miles a year so reliability is also a consideration. Again thanks for your time and great input!!!!

Porting stock heads and installing bigger valves is a much better "Bang for the Buck" than aftermarket heads. Mill the heads for a 9.8/1 -10/1 CR , 1.90" intake and a 1.54" exhaust valves made of SS by any of the top names and a spring pack to match the cam of your choice. Not much HP or torque to gained by porting with the tiny stock valves! Easy doable for $750 and now you can make some power! If your going to work the heads it opens a whole different world as far as cams are concerned. I would step up to Gear drive cams and go with a Andrews part #216337G, Cam 37HG .510 lift and 272 ID - 276 ED. With 96ci to work with this cam will still be very street friendly! With the ported heads your looking at 110-115HP and 120-125 ft of torque on 91-93 octane pump gas. Still use the SE adj. push-rods. Forget about upgrading the stock clutch and replace it with a Barnett! That's about all a stock bottom end will live with!
