Consideration when looking at bikes with 96ci or greater - 347 days old
Glider and I have been having a discussion about the run out problem on the larger 96 twin cam engines. I thought there may be some interest in the community about this information:

Finding An Intake Leak - 872 days old
This is a very common happening on Harley engines and a rather difficult thing to diagnose for some...
Your engine had been running fine but recently it has started running poorly, maybe when its warm, maybe when its cold or sometimes the problem just seems to come and go. The problem shows signs of both a rich and lean... Read more

Stator Plug Leaking - 119 days old
A trick that I found when the EVO stator plug starts to leak a bit of oil from between the plug and the case is to get the proper size "O" ring that will fit tightly over the plug and force it down between the plug and the case just below the surface of the case with something like a popsicle stick so you don't cut the "O"... Hydrallic Lifters - 184 days old
Posted by "TQ" gives a good explanation of how they operate.
I started wonderin' about this when I was having all that noise I thought was valve tapping. So when I changed out the lifters in my UC this last weekend, I pulled one apart to see what was inside. The pix are below.
And here is a pretty cool animation that shows a... Read more

Harley Ignition Systems - 810 days old
Twin Cam engines fire both plugs at the same time but only one plug is in a position to fire a fuel charge and make power with it as opposed to a single fire system where each plug is fired independently of the other at the proper time in the compression stroke.
Single fire systems use one coil to fire both plugs as compared to... Read more

Head Breather - 187 days old
Here's a breakdown of a head breather in the TC engines.
Part #4 (umbrella valve) is the usual problem when it becomes hardened with age and allows oil to leak into the air cleaner housing instead of blocking the path so the oil returns to the lower case.

Stator Plug Oil Leak (EVO) - 222 days old
I posted this in a thread and thought it would be good to post here for others.
It pertains to the oil leakage from EVO engines around the stator plug in the front of the primary case.
I had an EVO with this problem and what I found is a small "O" ring that was rather thin that can be stretched a just a bit to fit over the plug... Read more

Loosely thread the oil-pump alignment tools in the cam plate to properly align the oil pump while the lifters are held with a magnetic tool.
