Re: Anyone Carry while riding

I have a concealed carry permit for the state and always carry. I don't feel the need to be armed while riding, but you have to start and stop somewhere. Since it's so hot here ( south Louisiana ) most of the years is jeans and t-shirt. I carry a Kahr P9 because it's so thin. Use to not be a big fan of 9mm and carried 40's or 1911's in 45 ACP. But the new ammo available for the 9mm works well, and the pistol holding 8 shots with two 7 shot back up mags, weighs less than my old Combat Commander empty.

there are a few people i know who would be very dangerous if they were allowed to carry a gun.my brother being one of them-now he's a real decent guy but has a very short temper & is a little to enclined to the odd bout of road rage (mind it's always at cagers).
mind the idea of being able to protect my family against "bad guys" is very appealing. over here if you catch someone robbing your house & you have to hit them or restrain them its you who is charged with assault--crazy.
I see you're in the UK, but even here in the States we have to be VERY careful about using deadly force when in a defensive situation.
That said, I think Americans , (and I'm including the politicians here), still consider our homes "sacred ground"....meaning that if a person comes into our homes with intent to harm us, or most importantly, puts us in fear of our safety, (how do we know what the heck their "intentions" are when we find an intruder in the house in the middle of the night? Maybe they are just there to "borrow a cup of sugar", ie, would never actually hurt anyone and they are just hoping to sneak in, take what they want, and get out), but I don't think in a situation like that anyone expects us to interview the bad guy about just how far he was willing to go before we act.
You cross the threshold in the middle of the night, that red dot on your chest is going to be the last thing you ever see, and I'll deal with the consequences later, but I have a wife and kids who are my world, and I'm not going to waste a split second wondering what to do. Not in a system where that person is probably carrying an illegally acquired gun himself, obtained a lot easier than my legal and fully registered weapons, and held by a person who could very well have no regard for any life, including his own.
Not to mention the fact that this person, if he lives, may come back....if he escapes, maybe soon......if he goes to jail....maybe later....much later, when I'm older, slower, and not expecting retaliation from the guy I sent to prison.
I love my country, and one of the many reasons I do is for the constitutional right to protect my loved ones with whatever force necessary to ensure their survival.
I'm a middle aged guy who should work out everyday like I used to do, but like many of my contemporaries, I am not in the condition I'd need to be in to go hand-to hand combat style with someone 1/2 my age, especially one who is very probably tweaked and out of his mind with some combination of drugs and the mental illness that brought him to his current lifestyle to begin with.
That said, my state, NJ, is an EXTREMELY difficult state to get a carry permit in, and even easier to lose if not managed exactly according to the restrictions applied to the few non-law enforcement exceptions made.
But at home, there is not that issue, and unfortunately, in this world we're living in, it has become almost a necessity to be prepared to use deadly force if the situation forces such compelling action.
I realize I got way off topic...sorry about that!
Just started venting some thoughts here, and I wonder how many of you guys agree or disagree?

May I suggest to anyone who carries or has a home self defense weapon, to go to a range, or better yet an open range and practice a double tap, or squeezing off two rounds at your target. With repeated practice, you will become proficient with a two round group in at least 1 second of time! This way, you will know your target has been hit! For those who shoot USPSA or IPSIC know what I'm talking about.

The biggest problem here in Ohio is that there are very few places that you can go that allow a CW into their business. If I bring one along I just leave it in the tour-pak which kind of takes away from even carrying.

Unless your going into a government building, I would say bring it with you. I can guarantee you that a sign at the door is not going to stop an armed person with an intent to do harm. IMHO

I PACK EVERY ... MORN-NITE....

I'll wear OPEN in AZ. or concealed (what mood i'm in and where i'm going)

A 45 long colt / worn open cross draw (6 single action cowboy) for tombstone.

also in oatman az. STREET SHOW GUNFIGHTERS announce "anyone carrying?""PLEASE DON"T join in with our street gun fight as we are shooting BLANKS!!!! THANK YOU!"

a 40 cal. stainless TAURUS worn OPEN right hip with X-tra mag in holster.... "comments" from a cochise co. sheriff harley rider friend when we are out on HIS day-off.. "I protected your back side all week long now it is your turn to protect mine..."
he likes his day-off without a peace!

MIND SET has a lot to do with where when why how...... So I ALWAYS!!

A Christian group i USED to ride with, spent several days riding in washington state , yakima.... SUNDAY THEY ALL went to church and friend Charley and I went to a GUN show...When asked why we didn't go with them to church? our answer was "We wanted to buy an ak47 for the rear guard(me) and get a bazooka for the front (he). (was shortly after 911).... That was the last ride with that group as "they had prayer and the Lord to protect them and didn't need HEATHENS........"

Now,,,,, I prey and do ASK the LORD for HIS protection but sometime HE might have other MORE pressing things to do,,, so I JUST HELP HIM OUT.....

I have many many guns all sizes and shapes. I don't plan to give them up for a TAKE AWAY of our RIGHTS ..... WE have lost too many lives for OUR freedom!

I PLEDGED MY ALLEGIANCE TO GOD AND MY COUNTRY and so be it!!!

Re: Anyone Carry while riding

Here in Wisconsin we are not allowed to carry a concealed weapon. Our fine state goverment feels that we have enough people, namely the thugs, crackheads, gang bangers
and the like carrying so why would they want to have the innocent and law abidding people get to have the right to defend themselves. Law inforcement in this state feel that there are already to many guns on the street. Now help me out here, if they can't contain the problem and allow only the bad people carry because they can't get it under control how are we as law abidding citizen's going to defend ourselves. Speaking first hand, I was robbed at gun point this past July by two young thugs that had no morales and no value of human life. This happened in broad daylight on a main street not far from the harley plant on capital drive in Milwaukee. As they held their weapon up high over their head, sideways, had I been allowed to carry my 9mm I would have helped the local law relieve this city of not only two thugs but two less handguns in the control of the bad guys. Wisconsin is one of the last few states that will not allow the good people the right to bear arms. In the interm places like Milwaukee are getting worse each year. The murder rate is the topic each night on the news. Now I am not saying that everyone should go out buy a gun and carry, I do believe that with the correct training it should be our right.

Remind me never to travel to Wisconsin, I Cary all the time, so I guess there I would be considered the bad guy. Can you carry anything at all......like a tazer or something. I've thought about getting one but I might be quicker to use something considered "non lethal" Although the cops around here don't seem to have a problem killing people, or even a cow for that matter with a tazer!
