Totally against the law to carry over here. Only kitted up characters are either special police units (regular police do not carry firearms in UK or Ireland) or, sadly and more frequently, criminals.
How often have any of you folks needed your piece? Does it just deter trouble by being evident?
Interesting topic to us riders who just have a piece of your toolkit to chuck at someone should the need arise ...different cuture admittedly.

I've never needed mine, never needed a fire extinguisher in my house either but wouldn't be without one.

No one knows I have it so I don't think it deters anyone. Maybe them not knowing if I have one or not deters them.

Maybe! Of course I've never heard of a bar that is frequented by bikers or cops ever get robbed either.

This is a VERY interesting thread. A diverse group of people here.
My view? I won't usually leave home without mine because if I ever needed it and didnt have it I would be.. well... dead! I would rather live.

Against the law here in Canada too. I have never felt the need to carry, here or in my travels through the U.S. But I have friends that it is just second nature to them, get up in the morning and put on your gun. To each his own, thats what makes North America so great to live in and travel through

Re: Anyone Carry while riding

Well...as an exception I have a profesional permit to carry, (law enforcement) so can and do for 20+ years. I learned a long time ago that folks have to take some responsibility for their own security. Carrying is a BIG responsibility no matter what the reason so I hope everyone knows what they are getting into. Not my place to judge, and personally when I am out I don't advertise, ask, or want to know what others are doing. I mind my own business and alcohol and guns don't mix. No matter how sane you are to start with.

Re: Anyone Carry while riding

All the time. Thank God, Virginia is an open carry state, but I prefer to carry concealed. When wearing a heavy coat, I carry my 9mm S&W M&P Compact concealed w/P+ Cor-Bon's; when lightly clothed, my Sig P232 .380 concealed in the small of my back under my shirt.

Someone replied, "No need." Sorry, you never know when you might need - that's life.

AMEND! I fully understand where you're coming from on this. As you, I've carried for more years than I can count and appears to be natural to carry anymore. But, I keep my skills up and know the responsibilities that go with it. As I get older, it appears that alcohol doesn't seem to go with anything that I do these days, especially riding, shooting or as mentioned, just about anything else these days. Just no room for it!
