Cool, thanks!
That's what I meant to do. Oops, but thanks for the info. I haven't had a chance to shoot one of those yet. That's what my 9mm will be for. Just for play. ;) |

Re: 9mm shooters
I have a Browning Hi-power and a S&W M&P 9mm...I love them both...They are great shooters....And, I am a firm believer in a person needs to be comfortable with what he is shooting...not be judged by just "knock down power" If someone junps around because they are afraid of the recoil of the big bores, they will never get comfortable with that gun....
I have a 45 also...and, it does have great stopping power, but...lots of people don't want to shoot a 45 because they are afraid of the recoil and the noise..... I feel that you should shoot what you are comfortable with, be it a 380 or a 50 cal. Steve |

Re: 9mm shooters
Most of you are talking as if you had a choice. My first handgun, I didn't. I was going to school in LA during my apprenticeship. If you registered early enough, you could get parking on top of the buildings. If not, there was overflow parking two blocks away under the freeway. All I could afford was a Raven .25 auto. (After the laughter dies down, I'll continue.
) If you were 10 feet away, I don't know if I could hit you or not. But it beat having nothing. I agree with some of the comments above. We went from the .45 to the 9 mil to placate NATO. The real problem isn't with the 9 mil, it's with the ammo. I will guarantee that if I hit someone with a Black Talon out of my 9,they will cheerfully lay down and die. Now, if we're talking CHOICE here, that's different. I love the .45 auto. Big bullet moving real slow works for me! I have thought about this many times. Wonder how many people have been killed in the last century by the lowly .38 or even the .22? A deputy I know told me about a bad guy that got shot in the head with a .22. It basically entered the skull and then didn't have enough energy to exit so it just ran round and round inside. The guy's grey matter was turned to Jello. So, choice is one thing, but anything will work in a pinch.

Re: 9mm shooters
The 9mm has been tested with every bullet there is and even a few never released it always fall short. It always has been and will always be just a target gun and at best an ok better than nothing defensive weapon. I have had some real personal experance with the 9mm. And not on the range either.
I would rather count on an old 38 with with some good plus P's loaded up. and if you need more than 6 shots you likly going to lose that fight anyway. The best defensive weapon you have is taking the chance to RUN and not be there. the last place you want to be is in a hand gun fight. Quote:

Re: 9mm shooters
I have a 9mm, Glock m26 that I use as a backup pistol. It's about the size of a SW Chief's Special but carries 12 rounds. It's good in that context but for serious social encounters I prefer the .45 cal.

Re: 9mm shooters
I shoot a Springfiled XD-9sc at the range alot. Don't usually carry it though. I prefer my .45 Colt Commander for that.
9mm ammo is so much cheaper to blast away at the range for fun. I'll only shoot the .45 to keep in practice.
