Re: 45 auto shooters
I'm like Richard, My Ruger 45 is next to my bed and if someone tries to get into my house the dog will wake me but I differ from Rich in the respect that the last thing an intruder will see is the muzzel flash from my Ruger
In Iowa they frown on water pistols...I can't imagine what they would say about the Marine Ka-bar next to my seat... |

Re: 45 auto shooters
Absolutely love the 1911 .45 - I love my full size Springfield Armory Loaded. It is one of the sweetest shooting .45s I've ever owned.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I shoot a small Taurus .45 auto and a llama. I like the taurus because it fitls in my back pocket and is fairly accurate.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I have four .45 ACPs. A full size Llama 13 rounder, Charles Daly compact, Taurus PT 145 and a Smith and Wesson 25-2. Although the S&W is a revolver it shoots .45ACP. Yeah, I guess I like .45ACP.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I'm actually split...while I agree that the 1911 is a classic, often imitated handgun that is both functional and accurate, I believe the .45 ACP round is overkill and not practical in either a combat or self defense caliber.
My everyday CCW and home protection is a .40 S&W made by Taurus as an automatic. If I ever have to use it I'm not worried a bit about stopping whomever as it's not going to be a fun time for him/her/them. I wish the US Military had never gone to the 9mm NATO caliber...they are useless in a combat situation and I've had to use them and it's not a good feeling wondering if you are going to stop whomever is in your sights. It is underpowered for modern combat and the full metal jacket NATO rounds do not have great penetration characteristics.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I for one have been there done that and think the 45 needs to return to active duty.
You never heard for anyone getting hit 4 times with a 45 and haveing any to say afterwards.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I love my Springfield Armory.45 but I carry a Glock 9mm.I've heard all the stuff about spray and pray but the.45 is too heavy and bulky to conceal and any one on the recieving end of my 9mm won't be making smart remarks. They will be doing the praying for something to hide behind.I also have a
S&W.41 Magnum where I sleep.I love guns but I can't afford the nicer stuff,I would love to have an original 1911 Colt or a Kimber Carry II with the Crimson Trace Laser.Maybe someday.

Love the .45. I've had 3 Kimbers; a Super Match and 2 others all without problems. A new is not far off.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I have a Kahr PM45 for everyday carry. When I bought it new (a very expensive gun) It jammed about every 3rd shot!!! So it was sent back to Kahr. They did a bunch of work to it and said it was good to go. So I took it to the range and again it jammed at least 1 time out of every 5 round mag. Unacceptable of course especially for a self defense handgun. So it went back to Kahr again. This time when I got it back it functioned flawlessly. Very light ,comfortable to carry. Surprisingly accurate. I shot several hundred rounds through it before I trusted it enough for carry. Now I love it. It was a bad start, but well worth it in the end.

Re: 45 auto shooters
Have had 2 SA 1911(GI Model & Ultra Compact) and 2 Llama 1911's. Really bad luck with the Llama's and quite frankly I think they are junk. Great luck with both the SA 1911's and currently own a SA XD45 which I am very happy with.
