Re: 45 auto shooters
I think that John Browing got right. Ever 1911 maker now still uses his design with only minor mods. That's a lot to say for a platform that's been around this long. By the way, I also like Ruger single actions in 45 Colt.

Re: 45 auto shooters
The first pistol I ever bought was a 1911A1 clone; an Argentine copy of the 1911A1. After that I bought a Colt Gold Cup. I justified it because I was shooting bullseye and some informal IDPA stuff. I actually carried that Gold Cup concealed for awhile. I don't recommend it. Too many sharp edges and corners.
So I could stop carrying the Gold Cup concealed I bought a Colt Officer's model 1991A1 and fixed it up for carry. I also experimented with 357 Magnum and 44 S&W Special revolvers for a time when I had a shoulder injury that prevented me from running the slide on an automatic. After that I carried an HK Compact 45 for about 9 years. That was a very accurate and reliable pistol (as a matter of fact it's the most accurate and reliable autoloader I ever carried) but I got lonely for the 1911 platform. Last spring I bought a Springfield Commander length 1911A1 (Champion Operator) with the aluminum frame. It's a pretty comfortable pistol to carry and I haven't had too much cause to complain about the accuracy. For those of you who might call me a traitor to John Browning for carrying the HK, go take one apart. It's not the 1911A1 but the design sure looks like the Browning High Power. |

Re: 45 auto shooters
I've been carrying my Stainless Officers for 20 years, as I age and my back is worsening, I find myself grabbing my Glock 36. I can carry that all day in a Fobus and not know it's there half the time. When I ride, I'm grabbing the Glock and carry in my concealment vest. I may switch it up and put my Ultra Carry Stainless on the permit and try it out for comfort, the alloy frame should make a difference.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I would Highly recomend the Kimber 1911 covert. The gun is (edit) near a mortgage payment but has never failed me.

Re: 45 auto shooters
Well, I've got one Colt .45 and several Springfield .45's and love em all. All have been tuned for IPSC and shoot very well. I had to remove the comp on the Colt to qualify for the IDPA. But, I'm getting use to it. It still groups well. I just have to get in shape now. I'm a fat boy and hard to get around the old belly for the shooting around the various stages.

Re: 45 auto shooters
I shoot a llama 1911 knock off for my combat shooting matches at the gun club and it has been a really good gun for not a lot of money. After the trigger job and polishing the feed ramps, it has been excellent. The best part about it is it didn't cost an arm and a leg!

Re: 45 auto shooters
Have two, a Kimber target model, and a worked Thompson/Auto Ordnance(Bar-Sto barrel, match grade hammer/sear/trigger (3.5lb pull), reworked slide rails and polished ramp). The Kimber is an excellent gun for the $$. The Thompson shoots 2" @ 50yds, but I have a lot of $$ in it.... Favorite handload: 4.0 gns of Bullseye behind a 200 gn semi wadcutter.
