Re: Does anybody shoot a 380

Well, love these threads. I just got my CCW and shopping for my first gun which I think I want one for target first then concealed carry. I'm not a very big woman so weight and recoil has a lot to do with comfort for me. I'm thinking of a Ruger .22 but I'm going into this totally blind as I have little experience in shooting. Any suggestions would be welcomed and thanks. Ammo up here in Michigan is a 5 box limit.

Just be sure whatever you buy, you can get ammo for it.

I have not found 380 ammo for a long time. .40 S&W either.

Gotta love it!

I dont own a 380 but, does anyone know anything about the walther P99 40cal, I got it just before I left for Iraq, looks and feels pretty good but dont really know that much about them? Looking forward to cranking some rounds out of it when I get back. Any suggestion on GOOD ammo for it.

I am starting to see 3-6 at the shows now. Unfortunately, last weekend I saw a NIB s/n 371-xxxxx for about $50 less than what I paid for the least expensive one I bought!! Oh well. Now if I can just find some more ammo ...

TQ

Target shooting can be fun and good training......but it's not going to do you alot of good if your main objective is concealed carry practice.

Concealed carry and self protection will be more application of the weapon then hitting a target. Close quarter drills and drawing the weapon and point shooting should be more of a focus with your cc weapon.

A Ruger .22 would be fun on the range but just plan on a bit different training with your ccw.

Re: Does anybody shoot a 380

Thanks to all and Clint. I was told to learn to hit the target first to get the feel of a pistol but now reconsidering that advice. I only shot a Glock 9mm and a Ruger .22, grew up with rifles and shotguns only, so I'm pretty much clueless, for now. And yes, sad to say our country may be headed down the socialism road so I plan on buying as many as I can afford and will like to see anyone take them from me. Ride safe everyone.

This poses an interesting question, which gun is right for you? Sometimes, especially for a newcomer, that can be a hard question to answer, based on your shooting experience. Many, many people will tell you their preference in CCW guns but they might not be for you. I would suggest that you might see if they have any classes near you that will teach you the fundamentals in gun handling and shooting. Some like small frame revolvers, some like small frame autos but which is right for you, I'm not sure. A small revolver might be a good thing to start with because they are less likely to jam than an auto. I've know some people to start out with a 380 and possibly a 38 or a 9mm. I think that the feel of the handgun is important also. If it feels good in your hand, you might be more likely to practice with it. The more that you practice, the easier it will become to shoot it and hit what you are aiming at. A big and powerfull gun in the hands of a person that can't handle it would be a waste, at least in my mind. I feel that a person should get a gun that is easy for them to handle and that way they will pactice more and become more proficient with it.

If you feel that you have any more questions, feel free to ask, there are people here that will gladly help you down along the trail. Good luck

Re: Does anybody shoot a 380

Thanks TCSTD, the more info I read, the more informed I'll be when I buy my first. When I was shooting the Ruger 22, it did misfire, gosh, hate to have that happen when an elephant is coming at me. I have to look for some stores that offer try before you buy, or find a bf with a nice collection of guns I can play with. Ride safe all!
