Bike Lifts

Here's most of the lifts and jacks for servicing bikes in no particular order...

One thing to consider when buying a lift is the length of the cradle that supports the bike on the rubber cushion. Some lifts are only 12" long here and barely make it from frame rail to frame rail. The better lifts have 15'-16' cradles for better stability along with extensions for the tie downs bringing them to over 17" total.

Re: Bike Lifts

I bought a set of plans from a website, afabonline.com. These plans were for a do-it-yourself lift table that uses a floor jack. The plans are well written and have a detailed materials list. I took the materials list to a local ag-fab shop and they cut all of the metal for me. All I had to do was drill and weld the parts (of course, you have to have a welder). The table works great, and I wouldn't be without one now.

Here are a couple of photo's:

Re: Bike Lifts

I bought the Harbor Freight model (the yellow one).

It works well with a 3/8" shim on the cross member of my 2007 ultra classic.
I have yet to try it on my wife's Dyna Low Rider (still have to get the adapters).

One note: To lower the lift, there is a foot pedal for you to step on. But it works the opposite of the typical hydraulic jacks I have used before. If you press down "just a little" the lift lowers at the maximum rate, which is very fast with a Ultra Classic in the air. If you press the pedall all the way down you get a very slow descent.

There is no real way to lower the lift "just a tiny bit" under control. You always have to stomp through the "fast" portion of the control to get to the slower descent.

For the price and the fact that I could pick it up at a local store (no delivery charges) it is a a very well made lift for $78.

Re: Bike Lifts

The yellow model (Harbor Fright) is the one I own also. You won't be able to use the adapter Blocks (3 orange Blocks) on a FXDL, At least I could not on my '09 FXDL. Once I lowered the back of the bike just 1", even the jack by itself would not fit under the bike without a struggle.

I like the jack but know exactly what you mean about the fast decent. Thanks for the tip on slow decent mode. I did not know the pedal whould do that.

Re: Bike Lifts

Thanks for the insight about the Dyna, Hoop!
I figured I would have to drive the lowrider up on a few blocks of wood, no matter what.

I want a lift and was thinking of this one as well. Couple questions for ya, what is the purpose of the shim? I have an 08 UC, so I assume I would need to do the same. Do you feel the need to tie the bike down or is it sturdy?

Re: Bike Lifts

I also have the Harbor Freight one and I like it for the most part except you cannot access the drain plug for the tranny or crank case when it is on the lift, but for the price I figure I can make do. It seems sturdy enough to me on my Road King.

Re: Bike Lifts

Try positioning the bike an inch one way or the other to clear the plug and possibly use a funnel if it still doesn't line up.

Question Re: Bike Lifts

am thinking about purchasing that J&S jack.
but i have a center stand on my RKC. the web site says it'll work fine with the center stand ... but as i look at the stand under my bike, i find it hard to believe.
does anyone out there use a jack on a bike with a center stand?
just want to know before laying out the cash.

thanks.
