IMO the FXR is a special bike they are rock solid and have a market value because there are people that want them. Yours is well done not a butcher job.
Old enough to be special new enough to get parts for and keep it running for a life time.
And a nice ride to beat around on

Re: Planned and wish list for winter work and mods

Winter is prime riding time here in Arizona but as we all do I am adding my personal touches to my EG Standard. It is already beyond being a showroom floor STD as some things are done already as can be read in my below signature (radio, Hogtunes Tweeters, Detachable tour pak and etc). In my opinion the Standard is a perfect blank canvas that can be modified to some level of personal styling choice between the Ultra and the Street Glide.

I have already added the Wille G Skull Fuel Door to the console and the same Skull theme is now covering the fender tip lamps. The last two Wille G Skull theme items I will add are the Passenger Floor board covers and Hand Grips.

The other things on my winter list are as follows:

Saddlebag Wingtips

Nostalgic Saddlebag Guards

As we EG Standards don't have these... Oil Pressure/Air Temperature Gauge Kit for FLHT models

This next item is inexpensive and seemingly nothing but this summer a friend rode behind me with other bat-wing bikes and this addition to his fairing really popped as I looked behind me in the mirror. His bike stood out.

Chrome Windshield Molding for Electra Glide® Models

As I already have added the LED lighted directional bar below (first pic) my last lighting idea is the saddlebag spoiler light kit below (second pic).

Color-Matched Saddlebag Lid Spoiler Kit

The last thing that I want is a painted inner fairing as RichardS has mentioned. I think they really finish the bike.

Smit, I keep going out to the garage and looking at the FXR and remembering how much fun I had on the little rides I took on it this past summer.
It's just so much lighter and more nimble than the Ultra, and so "old skool" in looks.......and the best part is that early Evo has plenty of grunt for this lightweight scoot, I don't see how any brand new Dyna series would be any "better", just 3X the price! (Not to mention my FXR is no "cookie-cutter" bike like 99% of the new ones you see!)
So, of course I'm already having second thoughts about selling it, but since it's the only way I can do my Ultra winter project, I'll probably bite the bullet and let it go. But I'll miss it when it's gone!

BTW, for anybody that might be interested, here's the FXR I'm selling....for more details, look at the "Bikes For Sale" section of our forum!

AR...while your at it, go thru the rest of the system and add stainless brake lines, crossover...drain and flush with fresh Dot 4 fluid regularly (2 years) and you will be happy...! The *bling* will be a reminder of what could be lurking hidden from view...

Re: Planned and wish list for winter work and mods

As I said earlier, winter?...why wait when you can do it and enjoy it now (for those who do not hibernate our rides)! Just remember the three things to keep in mind: abilities, resources and time!

Needs:

1.) New back tire, worn to 1/32" ...would like to try Avons or Michelins, but the Metzlers have been decent...want something more sticky out back.

2.) Rear sprocket chrome is worn in the teeth area, so may have to do the sprocket & belt changeout, don't know if the drive sprocket is okay...maybe a good time to decide to change the whole works to be sure, as it probably "only" adds another $100!

Wants:

Uhh, to be continued...! The holiday season is coming and of course any and all gifts are heartily accepted.

Re: Planned and wish list for winter work and mods

Must do:
Trim windshield to size, cut it down about 2.5 inches.
Reason: Safety issue in the rain at night; need to look over it.

Wants:
Upgrade to the SE compensator sprocket PN 40274-08.
Reason: Eliminate the starter knock/clank and ‘can of marbles’ noise while riding which really detracts from overall pleasure and enjoyment of the Harley sound. Should also provide a smoother overall driveline.

Just a modest list and an intro to some wrenching beyond scheduled maintenance.

If you're still deciding on those tires, I had installed the Michelins on the FXR that I recently sold, and they were perfect for that little bar hopper!
Very sticky, and the rear tire had a nice fat profile that really beefed up the look out back.
Here's a review that's a little old, but you may want to take a look. Anyway, I can recommend them without reservation, and I had to be "talked into them" by the dealer, since I always go with Avons on that type of bike. (That's what's on my '93 FXRS) You are going to do a matching set though, right?
