Re: Planned and wish list for winter work and mods

Saving up for a few things on the Roadking, Need mufflers as I have been switching the SE slipons from the Ultra , thinking of the V/H Monster Ovals, Fuel control may be going to the ThunderMax, but kind of pulling a Bret Farve, sitting on the fence, do I don't I thing, will be starting on remod of the storage room for the bikes as it looks like a disaster zone right now. Too much of everyone elses stuff packed in there. might play the clean sweep game, hope they don't miss what they left behind.

No worries Rob...mine plays the "Wants & Needs" card quite often these days...but when she went on a trip to our daughter's for a couple weeks she did set aside some funds for me to use wisely...hmmm sounds good to me...

Promptly added the new for 2010 adjustable passenger footrests and they did have a "sale" on some Harley gear...

Gave the complimentary Race Tickets to some new friends who never saw Flat Track Harley Races, so it is all helping our local HD dealer! WHY WAIT FOR WINTER...when you can spend it all NOW?!!!

Oh...just got off the phone...my baby grandson is likely coming tonight...daughter is having cramps and water is going to break any minute. May have to add Sunnyvale to my short "Winter" bucket list...

What are your must do repairs and or updates and why?
What are your planned mods and wish list if cash and time allow, also why?
07 Road Glide (The FB gets no work this year)
Mine are: Must do
1. New back tire reason wore out
Wants:
1. Finish paint mods on rear of front fender and paint interfaring.
2. New floating rotors and front barke pads.
Reason 40,000+ on bike now Rotated rotors at 20,000, they are still fine but I want a different look and this would be a good time to get it done.
Pulling front tire anyway to remove fender for painting.
3. Make up my mind on pipes I want on it. And replace clamps with SS ones while doing the work. Bolts on stock clamps look bad IMO.
What I expect to see from this thread is just what you see above most work on the HD is want not needs. Lets see how the rest of you do.
First of all Smit, Congrats on a well-typed post!!

OK, now seriously, here's MY list:

1. Sell my '86 FXR Custom (see Bikes For Sale on the forum) to FINANCE my "wish-list". (yes, that was an unabashed plug!)
2. Use said funds to:

A. Paint inner upper and lower fairings to match bike. I have wanted to do that ever since I saw how awesome Steve's turned out!
B. I was toying with converting much of the black on the bike to tan, to match my Corbin seat, but have made the decision to go back to black with my seating to avoid the color change. (the tan seat looks awesome but not "right" with black elsewhere on the bike). So I have already spent some of the money from the sale of the FXR (which I haven't actually SOLD yet...don't tell Cathy!) to buy a Corbin seat like the one I have, but in black. It's not here yet but when it arrives my tan seat will possibly become available if anyone is interested.
C. Triple Light Rails for saddle-bags...also ordered but not here yet. (Glider I'm serious...do NOT tell Cathy! )
D. New mirrors with sequential turn-lamp lighting on them to replace my "Live To Ride" mirrors. (They will also be available.)
E. Light strip on front of windshield.
F. Replace other "Live To Ride" covers all over the bike with a new theme that doesn't have the gold in it....I'm tired of that.

That's all I can think of for now but I know I'm forgetting stuff!

I'll definitely take pics, and to everybody reading this thread and planning their own "winter projects", please do the same! Take lots of Before and After pics and share them with us!

As to the price of the FXR, I really sincerely think it's a STEAL Think about the parts alone and the recent work to get it mechanically turn key ready and a no-excuse, no-headaches bike, and the fact it's a Big Twin priced like a Sporty, and I can't imagine it not selling! The fact is, if I didn't have to generate the funds to do everything I want to do to my Ultra, I'd never sell it at that price. No matter how bad the economy is, it's still awfully hard to find a real motorcycle, (in other words, a Harley), in very nicely customized and 100% road ready condition for that kind of money. But I just can't justify spending another 3-4K on a 7 year old Ultra unless I generate the cash from another source other than the family income. After all, it's not like any money I put into the Ultra I could ever recover.

We've talked about this a million times......a bike loaded with accessories doesn't bring much more than a stock bike. And taking everything off and returning the bike to stock so the parts can be sold later is a true PAIN. So everybody who's reading this thread needs to consider the reality that it's fun to personalize your scoot, but in the end, that money is LOST when you sell or trade the bike. Just keep that in mind guys!
