These suggestions will also work on EVO carbed models too.
A tried and true for "most" carbs in twin cam bikes for rejetting with intake and exhaust mods would be on the low speed jet 45/46 (46 being the best usually), and on the high speed jet would be 185/190 (190 usually being stock). Install 2 - #4 washers (available in... click here to read the entire tip ► |

Re: *Twin Cam CV Carb Rejet Suggestions
Up the low jet to 45 or 46 and put 2 #4 washers under the needle to raise it a bit so the fuel flows a bit sooner, adjust the idle mixture to the highest and steadiest setting instead of a pre determined amount and then close it just a hair to the lean side. Reset your idle speed and ride it.

Hello again!
Ok....here's the outcome......she picks up better than before but i still feel like something is pulling me back......the fuel/air screw is turned 3 1/2 turns and i put the 2 #4 washers and 45 slow and 175 main. Is it the cam? Or the exhaust that is not getting me there? My idle is set around 950 to 1010. Any ideas would be very grateful. Thanks again! Lenny |

Re: *Twin Cam CV Carb Rejet Suggestions
All sounds good but I would go for the #46 low jet because the 3 1/2 are too many turns out for the mixture screw to be in the right setting. One works in conjunction with the other. A larger low jet would decrease the turns out on the screw and supply more fuel too.The mixture should be set acording to the proper procedure and not a specific amount of turns out.
Don't know about your cam or exhaust without knowing what you have. You should be able to get the engine performing right even with stock cam and exhaust with the right mixtures. It would run better with some slip ons. |

Don't know what you refer to here?
It would run better with baffles in the mufflers too. It needs backpressure to run right. Lack of it will loose bottom end, that may be what you are feeling. Quote:

Thanks a million again!
Here's the final outcome and the bike is running sweet! I changed the main to 165 and the slow 46; now what i meant by splitters......an old friend of mine told me that back in the day people used to drill a hole on the back side of the pipes and either bolt a screw through or weld one on to create some back pressure. And man does she pick up and a lot less vibration also. So thank you again...... Lenny |

Re: *Twin Cam CV Carb Rejet Suggestions
I have a 05 Dyna Super Glide with a 88 twin cam. We rejetted it to 48 from 45. We did not do the spacers yet.
Early in AM when it is cold and foggy but still 50 degrees or warmer, I am having problems. After riding the bike about 10 minutes when I start going up a hill on the freeway, 80 mph, the bike loses speed rather quickly to 70 mph. Giving it more throttle did nothing to help. What saved me was I reached down and pulled the fuel enricher (choke) out then it regained speed and was OK. It runs fine when I come home in the PM and it is 70 /80 degrees. In the afternoon after work,I do not even have to use the fuel enricher to start. I just give it a little throttle, use the throttle lock, and let it idle a few minutes before taking off home. Does this mean I need to do the #4 spacers? Or should I warm up the bike more before riding it on cold / foggy mornings? Or is it pehaps something else? Thanks for your advice. |

Re: *Twin Cam CV Carb Rejet Suggestions
48 is too big, too much fuel in the low circuits. 46 would be the biggest I would go with 2 washers under the needle and warm it up a bit before riding.

Question for Glider
Glider,
I have been reading your posts about various topics and you definitely know harleys. My question for you: I have a 2002 FLHT carb. I have only owned it for a year, but the person I bought it from was the original owner. The only thing that he had done, before excepting delivery, was to have some slipon mufflers installed to make it louder. No rejetting was done. It would pop some and it was too loud for me. So I found some stock pipes and put them back on. Much quieter and less popping. After reading some posts here and there I changed the air filter to a k&n and I rejetted the carb with the following - 195 main and 48 pilot. Drilled out the cap and adjusted the idle mixture to what I felt was correct. The bike runs better but I still don't think that it is correct. The stock config was 190 main and 45 pilot. I want to keep the stock pipes and just get the carb configured correctly. What do you think would be the best way to go? Thanks in advance, |
