Re: American Slang

Oh, Jiminy Crickets, Marian. I was just trying to use some Aussie slang I found on that web page T Wrecks put up. Not start an international incident. Especially between about the only allies we have left! Go ahead and translate "A brolley in the Yanks pint of diesel". You got me fuddled on that one.

you know i was joking right

putting a brolley in a pint of diesel = its a jokey insult to those that drink the darker bitters/milds/stouts, putting a cocktail umbrella in a pint of beer is a way of saying your a light weight drinker usually done to the heaviest boozer in your group, you also depth charge the glass
Diesel - very dark oily looking fluids ie Guiness

That's pretty good, Hobbit! I had a feeling you were going that way, but "Brolley" threw me. Now it all comes together. We need a smiley with a lightbulb over it's head! I am rather fond of the Guiness. With a Jamison depth charge at the end. Makes me darts go all higgledy jiggeldy!

Re: American Slang

I did go on the lash in Gibraltar once (or was it twice?) when I was in the Navy. One of your ships (or was it two?) was in port and your mates in HRH's Navy can sure knock 'em back! Trouble was, the more THEY drank, the straighter their darts flew. Got to be from years of practice is all I can figure. I throw a pretty mean game of cricket but they were mopping the floor with us!! We got even shooting pool, though. They didn't know it, but I learned to shoot snooker before I learned 8-ball!!

Re: American Slang

Oh, yeah, I can remember the earthquake that hit, too. It was a real shaker. Lasted about three hours. Kept knocking me off my feet and shaking the room all around.
