Those two are right, but I was also looking for Titus Moody (Howdy, Bub!). There were at least five more: Falstaff Openshaw, who portrayed a Shakesperian actor and was voiced by Allen Reid who was also Fred Flintstone. Also, Senator Bloat, John Doe, Socrates Mulligan, and Ajax Cassidy. I'll admit to fudging on the additional five, but Senator Claghorn, Mrs. Nussbaum, and Titus Moody were what I was looking for. 3/4 of a doodad for you, Tigg.

Do you have any idea how tough it is to cut these things in halves, quarters, three quarters?

So here's a full one Tigg... as I read the question, I would have accepted one residents name, there was no indication how many were being asked about...

Any one who has listened to the show more than 3 or 4 times would know that there are three stops in Allen's Alley. The only three I have ever heard were the ones I mentioned. I was looking at the entry for Fred Allen on Wikipedia and it lists all of the others that I mentioned. I had never heard any of them.

I would have only been able to give the characters archetypes, because just recently, I heard the Jack Benny show where he and Fred Allen first met. In the sketch, they both describe how their idea's for a radio show were reversed. That Benny was going to do a version of Allens' show, and Allen was going to do a version of Benny's. So I had an idea of the various characters... but no names. That part would have stumped me.

Re: Radio trivia

No big deal. I never claimed to be any kind of an authority on radio by any means. I mean, all I've ever heard is what is broadcast on XM. Once you start researching it, old radio was a can of worms!! Take Alan Reid for example. Besides Fred Flintstone, I can think of at the very least four radio shows he was on. You had actors on different shows at different times on different networks it's amazing they could keep it straight. So, I will let it be known from here on that I will stand to be corrected on any question or answer

Re: Radio trivia

Most of the "main stay" performers, stuck with one network or another. They changed sponsors more often then networks. But the character actors... the "voice" actors of the day, i.e. a Mel Blanc, he could and would go anywhere they needed his talents. What amazes me, was that cross network working was even allowed. Even today, networks try to be very propriatary about their shows and staff. As for keeping it all straight... it's called "scripts", Son! When you can read off a script right in front of you, it makes it much easier. Plus, they were usually doing recurring characters... so coming up with a new voice, or accent wasn't an issue.

As to the questions... I'm no authority either, believe you me... mostly what I hear on Sirius. I love that channel. I just wish they did the genre's of shows in a block, or at least at the same time every day. It's like you've got to check in to see what's playing. I'd prefer more of an established schedule.
