Xied's installed hers some word on them

Wow my bike is so much faster I have to get better brakes for it
OK now back to earth
Night rides claims one or more of the following:
lower Engine temps
Decreased Exhaust temp
improved throttle responce
Less engine ping.

The install took all of 10 minutes the 07 road Glide they were installed on was stock with 16,000 miles. The bike was running fine with no problems.
First goal lower engine temp:
Gun showed about 20 to 25 degree drop running down the road at high way speeds 65-70 in sixth gear. The gear is important because of rpms.
decreased exhaust temp:
Well if engine is running a bit cooler I guess the exhaust temp would too.
Improved throttle responce:
YES roll on from 60 in sixth I did notice a stronger responce.
Tried a few roll ons from 50 in sixth not bad, not something I would do every day but not bad.
Less engine ping:
Well mine never did ping so I have pass on this one.
Next I let the bike idle in the garage on a 85-90 degree day no wind in there at all.
The bike was about 20 degrees lower than when I have tried this without Xieds.
4 mintues in to the test temp went up and seemd they would meet or top test with out Xieds but they held and at 7 minutes had come down some to were I would call it about 20 degree difference.
My bike has always started ok, however when Hot it seems to start quicker with the Xieds.

The Xieds work in closed loop thats up to 4000 rpms is my understanding.
The whole last week I checked to see how often I go pass 4000 prms.
Not very often even on a hurry up and go It seems I shift at at 4000 prms.
In 6th gear 3000 prms is 80 mph. So it would seem that the Xieds will cover me in just about all of my riding range.
I plan to give these a long term try at this time they appear to do as claimed. By Nightrider, they do not live up to some of the claims I have read about them.
Time will tell racers can live with a product that works for a short time,
street rides need products that work all the time.
As of now Nightrider XIEDS area Go of me.

Re: Xied's installed hers some word on them

Next thing I noticed the exhaust pipes tail end, the left side has always had a light coat of carbon on it the right side not a spot now the right side is starting to show some.
Tonight riding a little hard in short burst of speed up and down the gears throught curves.
Heard a couple back fires It has never done befor, cause could be little extra fuel burning off in the pipes. Bike running good. Yes you can ride a bagger like a sport bike now and then

Good write-up Smitty....I finally installed mine this morning (raining here) took about 15 minutes mostly spent re-routing wire. Can't wait to try on street to see if mine perform as well.....

Smitty...I am so freakin dumb when it comes to all this stuff...but you always give first hand review..coz you are trying it..so here my question..what is it and how does it work...does it only work on stock bikes..I have a 04 Road King I've had the Big Bore kit installed along with the Power Commander 2. I've lost probably 8 to 10 mpg...bike runs great...but the loss of MPG now a days suck...I did all this coz I wanted to and do pull a trailer. also to get around better on the highways...I seen a lot of you guys talk about the xied's and I guess I'm the only idiot that have no clue what you guys are talking about...Thanks in advance.

Re: Xied's installed hers some word on them

First I would like to say that unless your racing the bike I would rather see a TFI than a pc. The pc takes some work to get right thats just my view.
As for the Xieds and 02IED's.
They go between the o2 senor and ecm. The o2 senor works in a closed loop to 4000 rpms. The voltage from the 02 senor tells the ecm to keep the fuel to air mix at 14:7.1.
That is very lean to meet EPA rules.
The 02IED basicly tells a lie to the ecm causing the air to fuel mix to become 14:2.1 slightly better. The XIED causes a change to 13:8.1 even better.
These are not a replacement for a good fuel manager on a bike that has been moded out. This is were it gets tricky and the arguements will start.
If you do a stage one and have the download done the Xieds should help.
If all you do is pipes the Xied's will help
If all you do is Air filter the Xieds will help.
If you do a stage one or more and have a good fuel manager Xied's should not needed.
Now that all said it is aginst the law for dealer or indys to change the air to fuel mix to exceed EPA rules, some do it anyway. Fuel mangaers can work with Xieds if they are feeding a lean mix.
Gilder knows more about TFI than I do talk with him a bit you may find that taking the pc off and going with a TFI may help alot. from what I have seen riders have a lot better luck with the TFI. The PC work well but seems to require a lot of dyno time and work to get they bike were you want to go with it. TFI cost less also
I do not think the Xieds would do anything for you.
some dyno time with a skilled tuner could get the bike in line with the power you need and improver fuel mileage. There is always a trade off power virues fuel milage

Re: Xied's installed hers some word on them

Smitty..Hey thanks so much...I've had the bike dyno'ed twice..once it was great then they found a cracked a thottle body and replaced it ( under warranty ) but the bike did not run as well and back fired a lot. So went back to the dyno...They returned it again..Runs fantastic...just hate loosing that much mpg...guess I expecting the best of both worlds...lol still if asked point blank do I like the way it runs?...I do ...lots of power easy pull for the trailer. Anyway thank you so very much..and hope to meet ya when we come to the 105th
