Let me start by clearing up some of the myths about gas and gas pumps. Im a gas pump tech and fix these things every day. gas is gas, the two major differents are the octain and the cleaning agents. The 91 octain at cheveron is the same as the 91 octain at all ather stations. The cleaning agents on the other hand is very different between brands of gas. Cleaning agents are used to keep your fuel system and valves clean for a better running engine. Using your top tier gas is allways better than running non top tier fuels, but running the non top tier gas will not harm anything rather it just wont clean as well. Gas pump problems. If you activate the pump and befor squeezing the nozzle the pump shows its pumped 30,40,50, cents there is a problem with the pump and you are getting ripped off. the nozzle is designed to shut off and not allow fuel flow. If you squeeze the nozzle and it seemes that the gas is draining out they have a bad nozzle. You should tell the site so they can get it fixed so others wont get ripped off. Thier are no valves in the single hose pumps that allow fuel in the hose to drain back to the tanks, as amatter of fact the oppsite is true, there are valves in the pump to prevent this from happinging. The 3/4 inch hose generaly holds approx. 3/10ths to 5/10ths of a gallon depending on the length, so if the person before you pumped 87 oct and you select 91 you will pump a little of the 87 into your tank but not enough to change the octain level. The longer the hose the more 87 you get, so use the shortest hose possable. Hope this helps.

I typed two fairly lengthy posts with my thoughts and as soon as I hit the submit button I got logged off. So with that said I have not got a clue where they went. Ask the forum moderators I guess.

I live in the Florida panhandle along the gulf coast. Florida passed a clean gasoline law just a few years back. They designated what gas tanks to use, filters, purity, a tip line that works, etc. Since the law took effect I have yet to find any water in the bowl of my carburetor. Most branded gas stations are closing down and becoming convenience stores with generic gas pump names. That way they can order gasoline by price and not brand. The best gas in my area is Citgo but they all burn alike. Fossil

Re: BRAND Of Fuel Poll
Thanks for the posting tips.
I have used Sunoco gasoline for many years. Some of you may remember Sunoco "260". That was probably the best on the market at the time. In my area in New York state Sunoco uses 10% ethanol in their gasoline. Ethanol is an oxygenator and helps to reduce pollution and I am all for that. Using it in your car with wide band 02 sensors and water cooling at a controlled 195 degree engine temps there isn't an issue with leanness and excessive heat. However on 07-08 Harley's with narrow band 02 sensors and air cooling and a not controlled environment (ambient air temps) you would be making a LEAN A/F mix even LEANER and much more engine heat. Now with that said, I try to find a BRAND NAME gasoline without ethanol to use in my scoot. I happen to use Mobil 93 octane. I pay attention to the pumps to see if they have a label that states it has ethanol in it and if it does I than go elsewhere. (That's just me and my feelings) One gas I won't use is citgo because of that "I hate the US" character hugo in venezuela. (notice no caps) I want to clarify that I don't have a problem with Sunoco in my car just not in my already over lean and hot 07 HD. I race an asphalt drag snowmobile on the 1/4 mile strip and use Sunoco leaded 114 octane red Maximal. (runs great) Years ago snowmobile manufactures stated in their owners manual not to use gasoline with ethanol as it may cause engine damage. Since than with more ethanol being used in gasoline's they have re-adjusted their motors and most are water cooled now. Harley states that you can use it and I am sure you can, but already HOT gets HOTTER imo. One last thing, if you modify your ecm in any way with whatever system you prefer and dyno it to the fuel of your choice you should be fine. In the mean time I won't use gas with ethanol in my scoot. Again this is just my 2 cents. ![]()
