It's located on the base of the motor behind the rear jug. At least it is that way on my 04 and 99. I don't know what year you have. All you have to do is take out the allen screw and remove. You have to be careful though. I have broken one off because it didn't come out of the engine case that easily. Follow the wiring all the way up to where it connects to a junction under the seat and reconnect there. It is pretty simple if you can get it out easily.

Then the prior answer was correct. On my 1994 the speedo is driven mechanically
