I have an issue with my 85 FXRT that when I try and start it, I just hear the solnoid click. The Starter is brand new and the battery is at 12.5 volts. The starter is getting the voltage but is not rolling over the engine. If I tap the starter button a few times, she may or may not crank over. I sometimes throw it in gear and roll it a foot or two and then try again, and it starts

Is there an issue with the starter bendix on the EVO motors?

You could have bad contacts in the solenoid or they are not making. It could also be the battery connections need cleaning or tightening too.

And also try using a jumper cable to "by-pass" (do not remove them yet) the battery cables. Hook up the positive terminal to the post on the starter and try it. If no difference, try the negavite side. If either of these corrected the problem, it suggests you need to replace the cable(s). This assumes you have already done as Glider suggested and cleaned and tightened the connections.
