Re: 00-03 HD Codes And Activation
I just got back from a long weekend trip and about 300 miles from home my speedo started jumping around and then hit zero and stayed. The check engine light came on at that time. A while later the speedo started working again and the light went out, but then the same thing happened soon after that.
I'm back at home and tried to pull a code following these instructions and i get this: light on for 3 seconds light off for 4 seconds light on for 6 seconds light off and stays Took the jumper off and the same thing happens. I'm looking at the back of the plug and see the tiny little 1 and 2, so i'm sure i have the right pins. Any suggestions. Thanks KJ 2002 Roadking. PS. I pulled the speedo sensor and cleaned off a little bit of metal filings, but have not had a chance to test ride, it's pouring outside. |

Re: 00-03 HD Codes And Activation
Did you follow this?
c. Turn Ignition/Light Key Switch to IGNITION and wait approximately 10 seconds (4 seconds lamp ON, 6 seconds lamp OFF) for check engine lamp to start flashing. If no flashes after the sequence, there's no codes stored. Usually the speedo sensor has to be replaced, cleaning doesn't give you more than a temp fix at best. |

Yes, the light came on and off like you described and then came on steady for about 5 or 6 seconds then it went back out. No flashing, i waited more than a minute just to make sure. I finally got a test ride in and the speedo is way off. it says 30 when i'm scooting along at about 15 or so. No check engine light though. I figured there should be something in the history since it came on for so long yesterday.

Re: 00-03 HD Codes And Activation
I would say to check the battery voltage to see if it is at 12-14.5 volts and after that replace the speed sensor.

Re: 00-03 HD Codes And Activation
Question: And a detailed explanation of current situation.
Gentlemen, I have an 03 FLSTSI (Heritage Springer Injected). For the past 9 to 10 months, the bike has been experiencing electrical problems. 1:Battery will not hold a charge for more than a couple hours. 2: More recently, bike has started sputtering badly and the problem is intermittent. I went out and purchased a Stator, RR and new battery. This was a total waste of money as last night we diagnosed the problem coming from the alarm/security system. Something is putting a 12 volt draw intermittently on the battery even when the bike is completely off. When we unplug the security fuse from under the seat, the draw is gone so it HAS to be something involving the security system. Also, I don't know if this is a direct result of my more recent problem of the bike sputtering (almost as if the fuel has been completely cut off momentarily). I mean, why would the battery draw have gone on for quite a few months and only the past couple of weeks has the bike started to sputter like this if the two problems were related somehow? Anyway, after removing the right side saddlebag and plastic fender guard located under the rear fender, I found chewed up wires belonging to a harness connected to the Security system!!! The end with the frayed wires had one of those ECM connectors (black and green) on it because I remember seeing it there when detailing the bike. There is a total mess under there now but the bike STILL continues to run despite the sputtering and constant voltage loss while shut off. Do you think replacing the entire security system TSM/TSSM is an option? Is there anything else I can do before replacing this costly system? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks. Dan

Dan
The only way out of this is to find what is causing the voltage loss. My guess would be a bared or grounded wire somewhere on the bike. The poor running could also as a result of low voltage due to the grounded wire and the ECM needs 9 volts or better to run the bike properly. Try running it without the security fuse in and see what you get then. There's the option of replacing the TSSM with a TSM to eliminate the problem but the wires may still be causing the problems so short of finding the problem, it's only throwing money at the bike. |

Re: 00-03 HD Codes And Activation
Glider,
I wound up replacing the entire TSSM and a new wire harness. Problem cured. However, I now have the red "Check engine" light coming on 4 seconds after start. It stays on for about 8 seconds and then goes off. When trying to recieve the error code by jumping the computer terminal under the seat, can't retrieve them. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? Any suggestions again? |

Re: 00-03 HD Codes And Activation
The procedure has to be followed exactly for it to work properly and make sure that the "run" switch is in the "run " position.
That light will go out by itself after 50 start/run cycles of at least 30 seconds each as long as the trouble is cleared. It's indication a historical code. |
