Re: I built mine!

All heavy equipment use hour meters. However running hours are based on RPM's and time.
Example: if meter your using is a 1000 RPM the 1 hour of engine running at 1000 rpms would be 1 hour however it would take 2 hours at 500 rpms to log one hour.
other side 2000 PRMs for a half hour would log 1 hour.
Our CATS all call for 500 hour oil changes with High Quality oils 250 with the cheap stuff

Just an FYI - The Ridley (actually they say they are truly the only completely American Made Motorcycle), uses a Bicycle Speedo for the odometer and speedometer. It is housed under a little metal box and runs to the rear wheel. They are also automatic -- maybe a good idea for some but I prefer shifting

Some of the models apparently will keep the info even if the battery goes bad.

Re: I built mine!

Here's what I have on my highly customized '99 FXSTC:

I haven't ridden the bike much, having purchased it recently, but I can tell you it has a nice clean look and an easy to read display, BUT....and here is the BIG "BUT"......

It doesn't appear to be very accurate at slow speeds.....I was getting smooth readings up and down as I accelerated and decelerated, ie, the display wasn't erratic or jumping all over, but for example, when I was almost at a dead stop, it still read I was going 10MPH, and at a walking speed, literally, it showed I was going 20MPH, which is impossible.

Maybe at highway speeds its more accurate, but I haven't had the chance to check that yet.
