CB

Does anyone fully understand how to work this thing, when I switch through the radio, cd, aux, etc. to get to the cb it will only let me pick like 4 or 5 channels, I thought there were more than that.

Re: CB

It sounds like your not getting into set up mode by just pushing the mode button. Push the CB or Com button. This puts you in the setup mode where you can select a channel. After selecting the channel you want, pushing the mode button will switch you back to what you were listening to before with the CB in the background. When the squelch is broken, the CB will be heard.

Re: CB

Speaking of the CB, part of my winter project, getting the inner fairing painted, gave me the opportunity to have a hidden (in the fairing) CB antenna installed, since my tour-pak is rarely if ever on the scooter anymore, eliminating the CB whip.

I wonder if the CB will actually work with that thing, since the CB is very dependent on not only a long antenna but also one properly "tuned" to the radio. It's going to be an interesting experiment.....not too expensive, about $100 installed. I won't have the bike back for about 4 weeks.

Anybody ever try one?

Re: CB

May want to check the SWR of the antenna for the CB so you don't damage the radio.

Setting SWR - Harley Davidson Community

I just happen to have a meter for sale too What a coincidence.

glider,
You are a one stop shop.

Advice and the proper tool for the job. Which just also happens to be in inventory for a bargain price. :-)

RichardS,
glider has you covered.

Re: CB

Yeah, just when I read that Richard was looking to tune the CB to the antenna, I thought about Glider's SWR meter for sale...funny how things stick in your mind!

Tank, Glider has us ALL covered! Even though every member here is so highly valued, without The Boss we'd be up the creek without a paddle! (Left out all the adjectives that would get me fired, but you know what I mean!)

PS: Glider, the ad for the antenna says it's pre-tuned....how is that possible??

Good question, probably a sales gimmick as in "close"

Glider, if you get a sec, can you check this out? This is the one I'm getting where it says it's "pre-tuned".....as someone who remembers CB radio operation very well from the 70's, I don't see how that's possible, since every radio is different, as well as the environment it's set up in....would the "constants" of the Harley radio and stock fairing dimensions allow pre-tuning? Let me know what you think.

Re: CB

Quote:
J&M’s new FLEXPOWER™ hide-a-way CB antenna is THE BEST hide-a-way CB antenna on the market today, and will nearly equal the performance of your rear mounted CB antenna, to help you eliminate altogether the rear mounted CB antenna on your Harley®.

This J&M in-fairing antenna is pre-tuned from our factory for the 27mhz CB radio band (no further tuning is required during installation) and is spec’d for the 1998-2010 versions of the Harley Classic (BatWing) or RoadGlide Fairing, with the factory Harley CB radio.
They more than likely set it up as a compromise because the SWR has to be set for each radio/antenna installation to work properly.
