I can't answer the question that you ask about going from the Bose to HK but I can suggest a different path that is cheaper than the HK. Maybe you already know what I am about to suggest.

Visit the below link to Biketronics. They offer a plug and play harness (around $190) that will adapt modern Sony automotive radio solutions (priced at around $150) to the handlebar switches that you already have. Once you have invested in the harness anytime in the future that the $150 Sony unit dies you don't have to pay a $1000 to HD for a new radio.

Interesting site. great price but .....

No mention of a frequency response.

This I find misleading ...17 watts RMS/52 peak x 4 channels

Is this 17 watts per channel or 4 watts per channel (17/4).

Probably the best place to understand the radio specs would be the Sony site. I have the CDX-GT630UI in my Standard. I think it sounds good. For $150, I can buy a few replacements for the price of one HK. The other nice thing is you can add a HD Radio Tuner (not Harley Davidson ), CD Disc Changer and XM upgrades for a way lower cost than Harley prices.

The Sony site says the following:

Output Power : 52W x4 High Power - 17 watts per channel minimum continuous average power into 4 Ohms, 4 channels driven from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with no more than 5% total harmonic distortion.

CDX-GT630UI | Xpld CD Receiver | Sony | Sony Style USA
