71 fx wont start
been trying to get her started for a while. STRONG spark all the way to the plugs which are new. Pulled carb (old s and s super no accelerator pump) and cleaned it. Got fresh gas in tank. Acts like its mistimed backfires through carb. is it possible for it "jump timing". It was running great and suddenly nothing. Any help at this point would greatly appreciated.

Re: 71 fx wont start
Give it a little spray of gas down the carb or a shot of starting either. Sometimes it's all it takes to get it running the first time.

Re: 71 fx wont start
Ok, so you have an S&S Super "B" carb, I would agree, check your points and condensor, if you set the gap to .018 that should get you started. Also are you running solid or hydraulic pushrods? Solids tend to need an adjustment every now and again, that could also cause some backfiring.
