Softail Clunking Front End
Sticky Thread   No new post Softail Clunking Front End - 1002 days old
This is a subject that a great number of people have been experiencing lately. HD has upped the torque specs for the later models from 35 FT/LBS to 100 FT/LBS. It may not be posted correctly in your owners manual. I used 70 FT/LBS to see if it would stop the clunk and it worked just fine. I was concerned about the 100 LB figure that... Read more

Chrome Switch Housing/Grip Install
Sticky Thread   No new post Chrome Switch Housing/Grip Install - 820 days old
What I recommend is when doing this job and reinstalling the housings, put them together in the position that they will be when finished without any of the screws installed and hold the housings like this and install the screws without tightening them all the way. Best done with an extra set of hands. After they are in position and... Read more

Replacing Your Hand Grips
Sticky Thread   No new post Replacing Your Hand Grips - 977 days old
If you have some mechanical aptitude, and can use hand tools,we'll try this together. If carbed I am assuming you have the original CV carb or a Mikuni but if it is an S&S with a butterfly it will be the same process. This is only a guideline and a service manual will prove very handy if you should run into problems not covered here ... Read more

Jiffy Stand Stop
Jiffy Stand Stop - 162 days old
Some have posted about the bike moving excessively when using the jiffy stand. They will tend to creep a bit when the weight is applied to the stand especially when on irregular surfaces such as an incline. Another thing to check is for excessive wear on the locking plate that locks the stand in the down position when weight is applied.... Read more

This will give you a guide to removing the tank. There's been questions about a crack starting at one of the holes in the shield material where the bolts pass through on some bikes. Here's a reply I posted about this problem. Headlight Adjustment
Headlight Adjustment - 200 days old
Most lights are about the same as far as adjustment. If you remove the screw in the bottom of the headlight trim ring, you will find there is a screw at the 12 o'clock position that adjusts the beam up and down and there's one I believe at the 9 o'clock position that shifts it side to side. I usually use the garage door to see the... Read more

Throttle Sleeve Sticking
Throttle Sleeve Sticking - 220 days old
Some have found that the throttle sleeve is sticking mostly after a grip replacement. On the cable drive throttles, a lubrication of the bar where the sleeve rotates will return it to new again. I use Bike Aid also known as dri slide for this, it works well and the throttle sleeve rotates nice and smooth. While you are in there do... Read more
