Shimming cv needle

Still trying to jet m2 cyclone,44 slow 195 main. Wondering if 3 no.4 washers for spacing the needle is too much. Were real close, dont know if we should up a jet size or use another shim, thanks

Re: Shimming cv needle

Before we saw your reply Glider, we had already had a third shim in.Resulted in too rich slow circuit and too lean main circuit, well try again tomorrow thanks

Re: Shimming cv needle

In case it helps anyone in the future, we ended up with a 45 slow,2 shims under the needle and a 205 main

Re: Shimming cv needle

The 205 is a bit of overkill, drop to a 190/195 and you will get better top end.

Hard to beat 45 slow,2 shims under the needle.

Where was the idle mixture adjustment?

Re: Shimming cv needle

Mixture adjustment is about 2 3/4 out, it had a 195 to start with and plug chop was still showing white with a 200 , looks good with 205

Re: Shimming cv needle

Don't go with a plug chop. That worked with the tetra ethyl lead in fuels but now all you see for color is the fuel additive packages which can't be used for determining mixture.

Try this for determining the high speed jet. It's more accurate than plug chops. If the engine doesn't have cams, head work or higher compression, the 205 is too big.

Run the bike through the gears into third gear and run third up to 60-70 MPH full throttle, then chop the throttle about 1/8 to 1/4 back and see if the bike either surges ahead or stumbles then recovers.

If it surges ahead, your jetting is lean
If it stumbles and recovers , your jetting is rich
If it makes no difference, you're pretty close.

Re: Shimming cv needle

Did that too, with 195 it made a significant surge, with 200 it made a slight surge, with 205 it doesnt do either, we dont know if any other modifications were done to the bike, the guy my buddy got it from, only had it a couple of weeks. We just dont know the history of the bike.
