Jardine exhaust... more power?
Hey guys... I have a Jardine pipe getting delivered later today... as well as some black levers, headlight gaurd, and a nice looking kick ash colored air box cover
I CANNOT wait to get the goods on there. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.Anyway... so the exhaust description claims "better performance". I've heard that is bogus. I was just wondering how it could be. I jetted my TTR 230 last year... which entails, as you know, opening the air box intake, the exhaust, and jetting the carb. Got me about 5% more horses. Well.. the Jardine is much more open than the stock exhaust.. so the exhaust will be open. The intake is already pretty wide open on the Buell... and the fuel injection will auto compensate for the change of airflow (instigated by the Jardine Pipe). So... after all is said and done changing the pipe is like jetting the Buell... no? I should get an increase in power correct? ... ... not to mention is should sound MUCH more like a Harley! Thanks Last edited by glider; Feb 11th, 2009 at 06:39 PM. |

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
the Jardine is a nice pipe but the Buell needs proper tuning and the 08/09's are very difficult to do as the direct link and Buell race ECM do not work very well, the Jardine will give it a very Unique sound, i like the Remus cans on the Buell

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
ohhhh my... think I created a monster! and i couldnt possibly be smiling any wider because of it
Just took the Buell for a test drive... omg the sound is incredible... very deep rumble and very loud when you get some. Feel like I'm riding my Sportster that had the Vance and Hines pipes on it... but the Buell sounds much deeper... meaner... angrier... more solid. Before I put the pipe on I ran to the local Harly dealer to pick up some oil (yeah... you have to take off the oil line to remove the stock pipe)... so while i was there I asked if the bike would need remapped or if any additional work should be done due to installing the Jardine. The customer "specialist" back in service didn't have a clue. She told me that I would have to bring it in to get a different air filter, remapped, etc etc... $150+ labor. By luck an actual mechanic... a tech... came out to grab something so I asked him. He said that the bike will be fine with "zero" additional work! No remapping required... the fuel injection brain will auto compensate. Said it might take a few miles for everything to adjust but the bike will be fine and that the Jardine slip-on is a great add-on... that is sounds amazing\mean. He couldn't have been anymore correct ![]() My test drive was fine except for a miss here and there and some popping when de-accelerating. But nothing like a real deal backfire. Can't wait to get back on it tomorrow! Removing the stock pipe was a beast! real pain in the... well... rear. Putting on the Jardine itself was a piece of cake... real nice setup. Bike prob dropped no less than 20 lbs replacing the stock pipe. pics soon... gotta put on the headlight grill and front faring tomorrow. |

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
correct the Buell does compensate much better than most as it has a dual learning ECM and will cope with just the pipe you wont need the filter but you may need the active valve bypass or just leave it in the top and remove the cable so it things the avtive valve is still in the bike - removing it and fitting the bypass tells the ecm its open all the time

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
Hey Hobbit.. thanks, as always, for the chimes.
In regards to the cable that runs from the top of the air box to the stock pipe valve (which isn't there anymore)... For now I have the dangling end ,that went to the pipe, zip strapped to keep it out of the way. I was going to run the bike a bit more and see how things go. If all goes well I was just going to snip the cable midway... leaving it on the airbox and removing the other half. Think this would be ok? The directions that came with the Jardine state that it could be left on (hidden somewhere) or removed. |

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
dont cut it what ever you do the cost to replace it as its part of the active valve is ouch. just hide it out of the way and secure it as you have done it will be fine

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
one more questions for you Hobbit... what does that cable do?
I am guessing as the bike warms up or as various degrees of power are required the airbox valve will rotate to effect the valve within the exhaust... which would then increase or decrease back pressure as needed... ? Soooooo having it disconnected (valve no longer present in exhaust) will have no adverse effects on the bike's performance I am guessing? Seems weird that you could simply do away with something like that... you know? |

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
the stock exhaust has a crude version of Yamaha's YPVS active exhaust valve, basically the exhaust gas with the valve shut has to take a longer route to the exit making the bike sound legal, once open ie higher rpms ever notice that the bike becomes much much louder its because once the valve is open the exhaust is not silenced as much instead of 3 baffles it now goes thru 1 or 2 cannot remember so power is up and so is the noise.

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
hmmmm... so no valve= more power and more noise... all the time
![]() So not having this valve on the bike will not hurt anything mechanically? Hope not... cause ummm.. I don't have this valve on the Jardine I looked thru the Jardine and it is nothing but a straight pipe with some baffling along the walls.... nice You can look straight thru it like a paper towel roll.

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?
just as a pipe should be
wont cause an issue the DDFiIII learns so will compensate for the need for more fuel just give it a few hundred miles or so to learn leave the filter stock as you really do not need the aftermarket unless your racing and the airbox makes enough noise as it is ![]() i will get me another Buell one day the wife aint looking - i fancy the new CR1125 just because its UGLY (IMO) but still like the XB1200SCG i had but i just rode it like a looney oh the one guy at our dealer had 40K on his XB with the Remus EVO pipe without hiccup and he just fitted it and rode the remus is even more free slowing
