Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?

thanks so much Hobbit.. I appreciate your sharing the knowledge.

I was putsying with that cable to try to hide it... I was worrying about kinking it which wouldn't let the valve on the airbox move freely... not sure if thats important or not but.. I felt like it should be able to move if it wants to.

So.. given your feedback coupled with the directions that accompanied the Jardine stating that the cable could be removed... I removed it completely. I am not a big fan of clutter so if it doesn't need to be there... delete it.. hah.

btw... I dont think I'm going on a limb by saying that I betcha I removed at least 30 lbs of weight taking that stock pipe off... that thing is a hog... and huge.

I think the bike has a bit more angry power... but that could just be in my head given the new ferocious sound.

funny... I thought of getting rid of the Buell to jump back on one of those new Irons... or a Nightster... for the same reasons you stated... its just to fun and EASY to ride like a loon. As ironic as it might sound though I feel much safer on the streets having this kind of power and handling. As you said months ago... you think it... you're there on these Buells.

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?

Holy!!! Well Hobbit... I guess you are paying some hefty Harley Tax then!... and luvin' every minute of it

Hey Hobbit... my bike has quite the series of backfires to it yet... not the ear shattering type as if a bazooka went off or anything just... well... when gearing down and such it will definitely pop. It actually sounds nice, and I think my Sporty sounded like this with the Vance and Hines Pipes sooo..? Anyway... you think thats normal with the Jardine or is the bike still compensating for the new pipe and the pop will eventually go away? I have about 150~ish miles on it with the new pipe... its running great... just the poppin is bothering me tad.

thanks in advance for you help!

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?

you will need to get at least 500miles on it and it will pop a little as the ECM is still trying to compensate for the missing valve.
the 08's were the first yrs that the ECM upgrade was banished as the new learning ECM took over.
Many over here just fit the filter and pipe and be done even on the new 1125's, it will get better but never really go away due to the pipes character, just be glad its not the full on Micron system not only is it deafening loud and if listen closely it still pops in the low rpms and the stock bike does to but the new pipe will make it louder

here is the Jardine on the XB9SX listen to the popping - this will never cure cos he revs it at a standstill

can you tell i miss my Buell

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?

hah... yes you do miss it

Mine sounds exactly like the second clip... got that same pop I'm talking about. It does sound really cool it's just intermittently there will be a rather loud pop mixed with the more regular popping. Guess the thing, as you say, is getting used to the pipe.

thanks once again!

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?

the adaptive fuel value on the buell has a specific need to learn buy, its between about 35 and 50 mph between 2500 and 3500rpm on a very constant throttle ie no movement, if you follow this for about a mile it will start to learn a new fuel value to adjust the injection n richen the mixture. if you can meet this it will learn a new fuel value very quickly, like a modern car. the aftermarket mufflers dont really add any power they just shift it around so it will feel stronger up top but will lose some bottom end or a bit of torque something u dont really want on the buell, but all round they r a good cost effective bit extra to have fun with.

Re: Jardine exhaust... more power?

interesting rancid... thanks. Wish I would have known this a week ago when I put the pipe on the bike is running like a champ though... and sounds amazing. Although it doesn't really seem to like cruising below 3000 rpm... but I dont think it ever liked that... it just sounds a bit more annoyed now I think cause the engine has a louder voicebox

I've never really layed the hammer down since I've had the bike... pretty much baby it unless I am merging onto a highway... then I let 'er rip... and boy does she.

Anyway.... yesterday I got on it more than normal going about 10 mph... and the front end popped up a bit... I'm loving this thing
