DOT Brake Fluids
Sticky Thread   No new post DOT Brake Fluids - 876 days old
Some facts about brake fluids. DOT 5 brake fluid is a silicone-based fluid and is not compatible with DOT 4. It is also less suitable than DOT 4 for ABS systems, because of its higher compressibility. DOT 5.1 brake fluid is a low-viscosity, high-temperature fluid compatible with DOT 4 and DOT 3. Its low viscosity makes it... Read more

Brake Squeal
1 Attachment(s) Sticky Thread   No new post Brake Squeal - 986 days old
Curing the annoying disc brake squeal Almost everyone has experienced disc brake squeal at one time or another. What causes this? It's simply a high frequency vibration that creates a harmonic between the caliper body or piston and the back of one or more brake pads (just like vocal cords). It usually occurs often at lower speeds as... Read more

This recall is basically as a safety factor from tires that separated from under inflation causing them to run hotter than normal. Posted by PetieJ All brake pads must be bedded-in with the rotor they will be used against to maximize brake performance. Tires And Maintenance
Tires And Maintenance - 476 days old

I don't know if it's caused by air in the lines or old fluid that has absorbed water, or both, but the solution is the same: bleed the brakes and install fresh fluid at least every other year. It's cheap and easy to do. ... Read more
