Re: Brake Caliper Maintenance
I found you guys via google from England cos I needed some torx sizes for my 02 road king's rear caliper and thought it might help someone else to know that although the 10mm 12 point socket worked a treat I struggled to get a 1/4" 12 point socket to fit in the tight space I had around the torx head, so after a bit of rummaging around I found a 12 point 4BA ring spanner fitted and got them both out.
Once they were out I discovered the 1/4" was way too big. Hopefully this MIGHT help someone out in the future. |

Re: Brake Caliper Maintenance
Is it necessary to replace steel rubber washers for bango bolt when changing caliber assembly?

Re: Brake Caliper Maintenance
It's a good idea to replace them but if you are stuck they can be reused but it is better to replace them

Re: Brake Caliper Maintenance
2 questions, if I may.
1. Since I am thinking about cleaning the pistons, but not changing the pads (theyre still ok), do I need to remove the pins for the pads anyway ? 2. any substitute for brake cleaner ? Cant seem to find it here yet. thanks |

Re: Brake Caliper Maintenance
You should to expose more of the pistons. The pads in place will only allow the pistons to extend a certain amount. Just don't over extend the pistons and have them come out. The brake cleaner is made to have the least amount of affect on the piston boots etc. Using another product may affect the boots.

Re: Brake Caliper Maintenance
In the Service manual it says use denatured alcohol to clean your calipers so I guess that OK too.

i just encountered a moaning kind of noise coming from, where i believe is the rear tire. i am afraid it might be a bearing going out. just had the bike serviced for a 20k service and of course everything checked out ok. My friend just encountered a similar noise on his ULTRA and had his rear brakes replaced and took care of it. my brakes look to be ok with the exception of the inside pad which i can not see, because of the location. any input would help.
Thx, |

Re: Brake Caliper Maintenance
Not much as far as input, check the inside pad and the belt tension. Either one can give you noises.
