Protecting Electrical Connections

Whenever there is an electrical connection whether it is a plug or a light socket, it's best to check the condition of the connection periodically and keep them clean to prevent problems with the circuit. Corrosion causes resistance and in some cases breaks the connection if bad enough.
After you inspect the connection and it is clean, an application of dielectric grease to the connection will prevent further corrosion and water infiltration into that part.

This is what it is and can be had in most any automotive or marine store.

I went to the self help site, clicked on "dielectric grease" and got an error on the page.

What is the difference between dielectric grease and regular bearing grease or even lithium grease.

I know a few guys who have been riding since the 70's and they just use regulay grease to protect electrical connections with no ill effects.

Don't know the make up of the different greases but I have used wheel bearing grease also on the battery terminals at times. The dielectric grease probably has some properties that make it more non conducting than other greases. That's about the only thing I can thing of.

I believe there is some work being done at the server level. There's a notice at the top of the forum.
