Here's a great link for explaining a leak down test. It's used to troubleshoot an engine when a running problem occurs and used in conjunction with a compression test to isolate the problem area.

Unfortunately, I don't have much confidence in dealer techs. They generally use the dealer as a learning experience and then move on to their own business.

I must say in all fairness that there are exceptions to this in some but not many dealers.
