Re: A Friendly Reminder

One more thought to keep this site free of vulgarity, a lot of us will check the forum out while we are at 'work', (I didn't say working...), however the lack of vulgar language allows me (& I'm sure others) to feel free to pull this site up at the office, (I arrive at my office about 45 minutes to 1 hour before I am expected to avoid traffic). I generally spend that time reading the forum or in my truck with a book. I will not risk pulling up any kind of site that may be offensive/restricted at my office. There are a total of 4 women at my office on an average day, trust me, I hear (don't tell mom, & probably say) more offensive language in that atmosphere to make up for the lack of it here.

Thanks to Glider & all the other mods here for making this a friendly & fun environment for us. You are appreciated.

Re: A Friendly Reminder

I really don't see any problem here for the few who want to turn this forum into a free for all? There are plenty of other harley forums around where you can be ten feet tall, bulletproof, use profanities, and if you wish, be as immature as you like, so why not go there? I agree with Redfish-Joe, it's all about respect!! Good on you glider!!

Similar to Joy's point, I often have my laptop tuned into hdtalking while my 10 year old son is in the room, and we even talk about some of the discussions!

We can, because I never have to worry he'll hear or see anything really not appropriate for a kid, and on the very few times there is something kind of "adult" in nature, I can see it coming and make sure he doesn't. The point is, I don't have to worry about a bunch of 4 letter words popping up or nude people. (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

Hey T, I'm glad you weighed in on this. I saw another forum turn sour with the vulgar language and the semi nude posting as well as the political section where everyone was just flaming each other. Not only does it take a lot of moderation for something like that but it becomes like the wild west after a while with the "kiddies" taking over the forum seeing who can top the last guy. The posts become nonsense and the replies aren't worth reading any more.

That's pretty much what we try to do here Richard. It shouldn't be a problem with anyone viewing the forum as far as the language but not all agree with that theory.

If you still feel that you would like your membership on the forum revoked or closed, I'll oblige you being you are so unhappy here and seem to have a problem with our rules.
Just let me know. I grow tired of explaining the rules to every keyboard commando that happens along and I feel that the forum would be a better place without that type of person in any event.
There are many other forums that condone the use of language and carrying on that some try here without much success.

Let me know!
However your statement above "I'll continue to do as I wish." pretty much tells the outcome here.
I have never resorted to name calling.Ever.When I disagree it's stated clearly.I also took any disagreements with you to PM as to not disturb the forum, out of respect.I feel I have actually made a contribution to this forum and would continue to do so were it not for the nature of your post.Since you feel this forum would be better off without "that type of person" do as you wish.Good day.

Let's cut to the chase here, you never were accused of name calling ,you do contribute to the forum at times however, you have a problem adhering to our rules as far as language and as you stated yourself when you posted "I'll continue to do as I wish." so with that in mind, I'll bid you a good day also and a good bye too.
Maybe you can find a forum that is OK with your attitude.

Re: A Friendly Reminder

Unfortunate loss, but the rules are there to keep this forum a neutral place for all, even during troubling times. Most of us probably use the backspace key a lot to help you out Glider. Every once in awhile, well, you can't make everyone happy. Thanks for keeping it orderly, even under pressure.

Re: A Friendly Reminder

I'm in agreement with everyone about offensive language, vulgarities, and anything else you wouldn't want on your screen with children and co-workers in the area. With that in mind, I have noticed a bit of a double standard in two areas:
1) When I first jump to this site each time, there are a collection of photos towards the top. While they aren't even close to depicting nudity, they are sometimes borderline offensive if you apply the "young person in the room" standard.
2) Some of the user names contain words or portions of words that would never be allowed in a general posting.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE this site and have no intention of leaving. My kids are teenagers and can handle anything I've seen here. I'm just pointing out two areas I've often thought were at odds with the overall standards applied to peoples' posts.

Interesting to see if anyone else has noticed this or I'm just being a bit anal about the whole thing.

If you point the photo out to us they can be removed if they are offensive, or that area can be closed by the user by clicking on the small arrow in the upper right of that area so NO photo's show.

As far as log in names, there have been a few that were not approved and the user was told to re register using a more appropriate log in name.

I feel the same leu, there are some members that contribute good info but unfortunately don't leave the attitude and language at the door. That's where the problem begins. We don't care for a member that clearly has an attitude when they are visiting someone elses place and it if stands out, then they loose the right to post on the forum.

It's kind of a no brainer.
