My thoughts included:
"I think the majority that stay, including myself, understand the reasoning behind the rules and support them, however there is a certain element of consistency that is sometimes lacking which opens the door for confusion/animosity.
I hope that sharing my thoughts does not get me banned from the site.
The world will continue spinning regardless."

I felt belittled for sharing my thoughts. Very unfortunate.

To the mods: I appreciate what you do. Keep the strictness, but don't be so thin skinned that a members suggestion is taken personally. Don't be so close minded that you take away a members ability to share their thoughts in an effort to make the site a better place.

I hope that sharing this does not result in more belittling or rudeness. I hope to continue being a member and will do a better job with my posts in the future. However, I would also like the freedom to give input in a respectful tone and be met with the same response. I would have sent this as a PM to the mod directly responsible, but it was made clear that these sort of posts are viewed as a "waste of time" and "nonsense" and that my account could be removed. How disappointing...
After many PM's with this member explaining this situation, he was given the reason why I told him that this was a time wasting communication and that was because it is posted in the first post of this thread all that he would need to clarify this and he still continued to PM me repeatedly with his concerns.
I gave him a link to this thread and specifically told him to read the first post and understand what it meant. Obviously he didn't read it or was not concerned about it's meaning.
The section in red explains about sending PM's to further your position in regards to language used on the forum but obviously it didn't have any impact on this member.
It's unfortunate that this member didn't choose to understand what is posted and heed the warning and as a result is on an extended vacation for now. Just how many ways and how many times must something be explained to someone?

Re: A Friendly Reminder

As a new member, I've had to give this some thought. I posted in the Newbie forum and got banned, apparently it was a mistake (or mistaken identity) and was rectified. I moderate a forum that is raucous, loose and crazy. The speech is free, to a very far point, it is by far the toughest kind of forum to moderate. in a little over three years we have 41,007 threads, 1,080,045 posts and 21,017 members we have twelve mods. We attract trolls, and internet tough guys by the dozens. The place has not yet got out of hand but it is a tough, tough job to keep the nut-jobs, trolls and stalkers in check.

After receiving a little demerit PM I took umbrage, I find it a bit much to be scolded for using a very mild word to assign a value to certain products. I could see it was deleted (edited) couldn't I? I think the moderation here is a bit over the top. But I choose to stay or go. I'm not going to whinge about it. The information available here is readily available elsewhere on the net. There is nothing to be gained by staying nothing to be lost by leaving...

Right?

This is by far the most active HD related forum I've viewed or posted on. most others appear to be a place for people to advance their own business or promote something 'rother and with little activity. I'm not interested in trolls, personal arguments or tough talkin' pseudo-biker acts. So far the forum appears to be a pleasant place to read up on the "new stuff" (to me anyway) and see what other people are doing with their motorcycles, what has worked for them, what hasn't. Straight talk among adults. if the rules have to be a bit tight fitting to keep out the trolls, internet tough guys and idiots so be it. Looks like it's working to me. You don't like the rules, you vote with your feet. Me? Think I'm gonna stick around a bit longer.

Any forum is a success or failure based on it's membership. This one seems to be flourishing. I really don't think the Mod team here need to justify their policies. The rules are posted. Live with 'em or not. From what I've seen so far, they seem to be working.

What you posted was removed (edited) and you received the proper treatment for what you posted as does everyone else on an individual basis judged by what they posted. It also was not a mistake.

As far as WHAT you posted....we have a ZERO tolerance for language here even in it's simpler form like what you posted. If we were to allow the lesser words, then the masses would get the idea that what they want to post is OK then and it would become a site like you are use to moderating. That will not be allowed here by the moderation team simply because once it starts, it gets out of control as you eluded to in your post and is difficult if not impossible to regain the forum without the language which is our desire on HDT.

Many think we are too strict here like you posted and to those people all I can advise it to find another forum where they can post as they wish to. Many have been removed form the members list for trying to change things here. It didn't work for them and it will not work for anyone else!

Quite plain and simple IMO.

Nothgin in my newbie post was edited and I was banned before what i posted.

Do you have a difficulty wth reading comprehension? I was actually backing your policies up. as far as banning me?

it obviously WAS a mistake as I was banned after posting this little ditty:
Quote:
I'm an American Living in Chiang Mai Thailand. Currently riding a '01 Road King (for sale if you're lookin'). Started Riding in 1967 when I got my "learner's permit". Rode and built more'n a few scooters lived it like it was the gospel. Things went haywire, as they sometimes do, and I've only recently started riding again after a 2 decade (plus!) Hiatus.

Chiang Mai is a Rider's paradise. The roads are good, there aren't any traffic cops But you may have to navigate around the odd elephant or water buffalo. We ride in the rain here. It gets down to freezing up in the mountains for a short period every year. But there is basically a year round riding season.

We trade in Bikes here and try to keep a stock of abot 6 - 10 Bikes on hand. Prices here are about double what they are back home. Once the RK gets sold, the cash goes into an Evo softail build. Nothing fancy, just a well thought out jammer with a few extra inches and all them things that help you keep the shiny side up and and stop before rear-ending one of the elephants. Think there's only three or four long(ish) stretches of straigth highway in the country. Some how, You just don't miss it though

Anyway, that's me. I'l go lurk now; see what's what on the forum and maybe throw in a a comment now and again when I've got something to say, or ask.
there is no edit. I was banned within ten minutes of that post.

As for what WAS edited a few days later I have no problem with it. if you are looking for a fight I am too tired it's 3:00 AM and I'm going to bed. You have absolutely no cause to get in my face, about this. I was endorsing the ideas here.

Or was my last para not clear?

Re: A Friendly Reminder

For the one that thinks they know everything....

THIS is the post that you SHOULD have been referring to that you posted language in and caused you a problem.

Harley Davidson's Suggestion Box - Page 3 - Harley Davidson Community

Not interested in improving cigar lighters or sound systems. The Ultra glide the street Glide, the Road King, The street bob the night train the fatboy, heritage etc... Harley needs to get back to basics. What made the motorcycle not only famous but the name synonymous with quality, strength and SIMPLICITY.

HD needs to clean up those little things like that weak, throw away crank. Give us back our rebuildable bikes, not a collection of the lowest bidder's useless one-time use (EDIT). Lose about a dozen of those models and sub models. Put a FXR, a FLH and a Softail out there, Let the rider customize it himself with optional (or even aftermarket) equipment. Build them strong and simple. The catalog of extras and bling doesn't have to change, but stop wasting time and energy on all these showroom customs; concentrate on good reliable machinery. Give me back the five piece crank, tighten up your lower-end specs and tolerances (again) get back to being a machine that has pride built into it from the inside out. Figuring how to raise the ports a tad would go a long way to improving the intake tract from inlet to valve, give use a bit more tq across the range, possibly improve mileage too!

I don;t care where you buy your parts but make sure they are upto the job and meet stringent specifications Harley charges an arm & a leg for these things and their customers deserve to highest quality on the planet. Right now their getting bling and excuses.

I have no problems with reading comprehension as you refer to, maybe you should get your facts straight before spouting off and looking like a fool. You were sent the PM for the above post and that was NOT a mistake by any stretch of the imagination which you seem to have a good one.

That's Incorrect again, not only was it the wrong post you posted above at 8:13 AM on Oct 18 as the one that got you in trouble but the one that DID get you in trouble for your language was the above post that you posted at 3:25 AM on Oct 19, starting to look familiar now?

As far as your statement here...

You should get your facts straight before flaming a moderator on the forum. Something that even you should know.
Thanks for stopping by. Try to get your facts straight if you want to get in someones face.

Re: A Friendly Reminder

This is the 2nd time I'm sorry. Glider, the symbol thing makes sence now that I think about it. I think, like you, we are adults and should be able to get our point across without profanity. I am guilty and will re-read everything I write and self edit.
I appreciate this site very much and have the utmost respect for the Moderators knowledege in the subjects discussed and what you guys do, it must take a lot of your valuable time and effort. It isn't that hard for us participants to read and follow the rules and let you guys get the more important stuff done. Like leading us in the right direction when we're confused.......
Thanks again and HD Forever!
