Re: A Friendly Reminder

I'm a guilty one as well. And after being corrected, (once for a word and once for using symbols). I understand why. I'm learning a lot from HDT and would like to continue doing so.

Smile Re: A Friendly Reminder

I once heard that "profanity is the supreme effort of a feeble mind trying to express itself forcefully". Not sure if this is true or not.

Re: A Friendly Reminder

You know sometimes I like the challenge of coming up with non swear words to express my opinions here. My dad is a truck driver (so hence he taught me all the cool swears) and you want to talk about creative uses for bad words, wow he takes the cake. But unfortunately the trickle down effect has worked on me so sometimes my vocabulary choices ar not exactly family friendly (PG13 if you will) EXCEPT here on the forum. I tried on one of my first posts to talk like a longshoreman and I was (EDITED) edited, with a friendly note from our liason, and from there I have watched the potty mouth and save it for the garage when I am wrenching.

I just hope my son when he gets older will share the passion for a good cuss word phrase that my dad and I have.....There is a time and place for it, but it sure as (EDITED) isn't here!!!!

Re: A Friendly Reminder

Hey, we all have "extended vocabularies" including me but I feel there is a time and place for it and that's not on HDT.

Thanks all for the understanding to make the forum a nice clean place to visit.

The (EDITED) change in a post has been showing up on a lot of posts lately on the forum.

It gets very time consuming to edit out the language and notify the member that no language of any kind as well as abbreviations for the same or even substitution of characters or symbols to arrive at the same will be allowed on the forum.

Your cooperation with this would be very much appreciated to save the staff here a lot of time. We really don't wish to see HD Talking go the way some other forums have gone.

Thanks
I have a suggestion about the language and not sure if this is possible, but here goes.

When I enter a http site in a post, the name will be changed automatically in the post.
EX: http://test this site
"Test Site"

I dont know if this is human or software intervention.
If this is done through software , why cant the software be modified to detect the offensive language in a post and provide a a message "Offensive language detected" . The user cant post till that language is removed.

Might make your staff happier .

Dan, that feature is working on the forum but not all words can be detected. The ones that are detected get **** (starred out) which is still a problem IMO as it was being posted in any event.
I actually think your idea is excellent about not being able to post, however I think a boxing glove coming out of the posters monitor would get better results myself
