Facebook Certificate Error on Safari Browser and iPad
As you might have noticed Speed (our owner and Admin) has several social media quick links in the bottom right corner of each first post within a thread. I think the Facebook link is acting up. The error is consistant on my iPad and when I use Safari on my desktop but is not an issue with my desktop computer using Internet Explorer or Google Chrome on the desktop. Worth noting at least in my case is that on the iPad instead of Safari I use a browser called Perfect Browser but I have it setup to render the pages of websites as if I was using Internet Explorer but I still have the Certificate errors on the iPad. Just a guess... From what I can tell it could be a coding error on Speed's forum as it is not an expired security certificate for the Facebook link. Looking at the certificate it appears to come from a legitimate CDN (content delivery network). Facebook and other websites use CDNs to help deliver content such as files or updates. Normally, when you try to connect securely, the other sites will present trusted identification in the background to the forum software (in this case) or to you to prove that you are going to the right place. However, I think at the moment Facebook's site identity can't be verified by our forum. If you experience the error you can just click cancel to proceed. If that is not your style then use another browser like IE, Firefox, Google Chrome which don't appear to be influenced. Below is the way the issue might appear on the iPad and if you use Safari on a laptop or desktop. |

Re: Facebook Certificate Error on Safari Browser and iPad
Did a bit of searching for this issue using Google and found that it is happening in real-time on other websites.
Search "a248.e.akamai.net" or "static.ak.facebook.com" if you are interested. Akamai is the CDN that Facebook is apparently using. The "ak" prefix in the Facebook URL also represents Akamai. The security certificate that is being used is supplied by GTE. It could be as simple as a bad certificate that GTE supplied to Akamai. Since it is happening on other websites it rules out a coding issue on HDTalking, IMO. Yes I know some of you will say but I don't use Facebook so why is this happening. The reason it is doing here is because of the social links on the first post in the threads here on HDTalking. IMO any website that has links to do a "Like" to Facebook can potentially be seeing this certificate issue. |

Re: Facebook Certificate Error on Safari Browser and iPad
This issue looks like it has been resolved.
I have tested it on my desktop and my iPad. At this time I have not heard from the Technical folks as to whether they did something to resolve it or if it was something external done that we now benefit from. |

Re: Facebook Certificate Error on Safari Browser and iPad
Had the error several times today, but haven't seen it in the last couple hours. Had assumed something had gotten through the firewall, so thanks for clarifying. Will sleep easier tonight.

Re: Facebook Certificate Error on Safari Browser and iPad
Update:
This Facebook error was determined to be an external one that HDTalking would have no control over. If it comes back HDTalking will remove the Facebook code we have on our forum that links to Facebook. |
