I haven't used the IED's only because I don't feel they are the solution to the problem. At the least, I would use a TFI and maybe a PC III.If I was after the last ounce of power that the engine could offer, it would be the SERT with a competent tuner. I find that in most cases a stock bike with some fuel added will offer a good ride and when guys go with the full blown SERT, quite often they end up with a bike that will give them some problems with pinging. It's all in the hands of a good tuner and the way the bike is tuned or set up.
The IED's only work in cruise, why would you only want to richen up one area without dealing with the others even thou you spend most of the time in that area ?
As far as the color of the plugs, with the removal of the tetraethyl lead years ago, the only thing you see from the color of the plug is the fuel additives. If you change fuel brands, the color changes too in many cases.
You can tell the heat range and if it's proper by the color of the ground strap and where it turns color but to use them as a diagnostic feature, it's not like it used to be. Looking deep in the tip of the plug with a 10X magnifier is about the only proper way of getting anything out of plug reading now.
