PC, again thanks, you answer questions with great information.

You said the biggest problem with the 96 engine is it's head. Could the head be ported and polished or are their better heads available and which ones would you recommend. I will be doing the work myself (I have been building racing motors for sports cars for over 30 years). As far as a budget is concerned, I would like to stay under say 3000. I ride about 15000 miles a year so reliability is also a consideration.
